The Doctor Who Show has made occasional forays into Star Wars content, in some way paying tribute to the podcast’s original incarnation, Who Wars; the world's first and to our understanding still the only Star Wars and Doctor Who mash-up podcast to have ever existed.
Rogue One, The Last Jedi and Solo... we've done 'em all upon release.
In this episode, Rob and Dave are joined by Richard to talk about the ninth film in the Star Wars saga and the alleged end of the Skywalker saga, The Rise of Skywalker.
What did these three Doctor Who fans make of it? Join them for this quick hour-long podcast where they reveal their thoughts to each other, live, without having discussed it before the record button was pressed.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (also known as Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker) is a 2019 American epic space-opera film produced, co-written, and directed by J. J. Abrams. It is the third installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, following The Force Awakens (2015) and The Last Jedi (2017), and the final episode of the nine-part "Skywalker saga".
It was produced by Lucasfilm and Abrams's production company Bad Robot Productions, and was distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film's ensemble cast includes Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong'o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Ian McDiarmid, and Billy Dee Williams.
After the new trilogy was announced following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, it was originally reported that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson would write the script for Episode IX. In August 2015, Colin Trevorrow was hired to direct the film while constant-collaborator Derek Connolly would co-write a new script (both would eventually receive story credit with Abrams and Chris Terrio). In September 2017, Trevorrow left the project following creative differences with producer Kathleen Kennedy, and a few days later, it was announced that Abrams had been hired to return. Principal photography began in August 2018 at Pinewood Studios in England, and wrapped in February 2019; post-production was completed on November 24, 2019.
The Rise of Skywalker had its world premiere in Los Angeles on December 16, 2019, and was theatrically released in the United States on December 20, 2019. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising its celebration of the entire saga and others considering it unimaginative and not bold enough.

Our Top 5 Nu-Who Moments
Sunday Nov 24, 2019
Sunday Nov 24, 2019
As November 23, 2019 approached, the BBC started dropping a surprising amount of information about the forthcoming Series 12 of Doctor Who after a relative dearth of information for the entire year.
Then, on Doctor Who's 56th birthday, a trailer for the new series dropped. Unfortunately, we recorded this episode a few days before that (!) fully acknowledging that we'd miss the trailer that we knew was coming, however, Rob has subsequently blogged about it.
After discussion of what we know about Series 12 during our news segment, this episode then moves onto some short topics including what we're watching at present, then our main topic for the month (as revealed in our previous episode), Our Top 5 Nu-Who Moments.
How did we do? Did you like our picks?
And as always, we hope you like the episode...!

Great balls of fire! It's the Pertwee era!
Sunday Oct 27, 2019
Sunday Oct 27, 2019
10 episodes into our fourth series and 50 years after he took on the role (remember, Season 7 filming was well underway by late 1969 for a January 1970 debut), we discuss the Jon Pertwee era of Doctor Who.
We discuss each season, along with breakout chats on the Pertwee companions, UNIT, the Third Doctor in other media, such as books and audios, and more.
Before then, as usual, we discuss the past month in Doctor Who which, this time around, includes Jodie Whittaker singing some Coldplay, an amateur version of Mission to the Unknown, and Doctorates all 'round for the cast and crew of The Woman Who Fell to Earth. Were they deserved?
General listener comments from: Shane Gordon (sorry we called you Shane McCoy on the show!), Paolo Damante, Mark Cockram, and Christopher Bryant

Joker
Sunday Oct 13, 2019
Sunday Oct 13, 2019
Dave and Richard have been to see Joker. What did they think of it? Tune in!
Joker is a 2019 American psychological thriller film directed by Todd Phillips, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. The film, based on DC Comics characters, stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. An origin story set in 1981, the film follows Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, and Marc Maron appear in supporting roles. Joker was produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films, and Village Roadshow Pictures, and distributed by Warner Bros.
Joker premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2019, where it won the Golden Lion, and was released in the United States on October 4, 2019. The film polarised critics; while Phoenix's performance was praised, the dark tone, portrayal of mental illness, and handling of violence divided responses. Joker also generated concerns of inspiring real-world violence; the movie theatre where the 2012 Aurora, Colorado mass shooting occurred during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises refused to show it.

The Keeper of Traken
Sunday Sep 29, 2019
Sunday Sep 29, 2019
As regular listeners know, Rob and Dave differentiate the Doctor Who Show from most other Who podcasts by seldom talking about a single Doctor Who story as the main segment of their monthly shows. Their topics are usually broader, taking in multiple stories as they work their way through a topic.
This month, however, the guys have decided to mix things up and do something a little different by taking a deep dive on the penultimate (and underrated?) Tom Baker story, The Keeper of Traken, as the main focus of the episode.
Before they get there, however, they follow their usual format of cherry picking some of the more interesting Doctor Who news stories for the previous month, and also rattle through a few quick 'mini topics' of their own.

Terrance Dicks (14 April 1935 - 29 August 2019)
Wednesday Sep 04, 2019
Wednesday Sep 04, 2019
Terrance Dicks was born 14th April 1935 and passed away 29th August 2019, aged 84, leaving a figurative hole in the heart of Doctor Who fans of a certain age around the globe.
We at the Doctor Who Show were both massive fans of 'Uncle Terrance', to the degree that we joyfully dedicated a whole episode of the podcast to him back in January, 2019.
Tonight, we take that audio and add some new comments recorded today, within 24hrs of hearing the news, so we can - in some small way - pay a final tribute to the great man.
We also hope if there are listeners of ours out there who are wanting to remember Terrance in the days ahead, then perhaps this audio file will be an uplifing and maybe even fun way to look back on his awesome career and fantastic body of work.
Vale, Terrance.
